primary care sports medicine
Primary Care Sports Medicine is practiced by physicians who specialize in Family Practice, Internal Medicine, or Emergency Medicine. The focus of Primary Care Sports Medicine is the diagnosis and treatment of injuries that do not require surgical treatment such as shoulder dislocation, collarbone fracture, elbow or wrist sprain, simple finger fractures, back sprains, knee sprains ligament injuries, and ankle and foot sprains and fractures.
Specialists in Primary Care Sports Medicine also "screen" or triage injuries so that injuries that may require surgery are referred to an Orthopaedic Surgeon. Often, injuries requiring surgery also require pre-operative rehabilitation and medical stabilization which can more effectively be performed by a Primary Care Sports Medicine specialist.
Greater Pittsburgh Orthopaedic Associates is fortunate to have Primary Care Sports Medicine specialist, Dr. Matthew Fisher, working with the Pittsburgh, Brackenridge, and RIDC Orthopaedic Surgeons to enhance the delivery of Sports Medicine care in the region.
