Jeffrey Mulholland, MD
Dr. Mulholland earned his undergraduate and medical degrees with honors from the University of Virginia, followed by an internship in general surgery and residency on orthopaedic surgery at the Medical College of Virginia. He was then granted a one-year fellowship in Sports Medicine at the nationally renowned Kerlan-Jobe Clinic in California.
This fellowship allowed Dr. Mulholland to sharpen his skills on the treatment of injured athletes, both from a rehabilitative and a surgical standpoint. Working with professional athletes, a high pressure situation where a successful and speedy recovery can restore or prolong a career, allowed him to focus on the rapid diagnosis and treatment of sports injuries.
"In most cases, prompt diagnosis allows the patient and physician to create a treatment plan that results in an early return to his or her sport, often with the help of a physical therapist or trainer."
Treating conditions that result from overuse, such as rotator cuff tendinitis, as well as acute injuries such as shoulder injuries or ligament tears of the knee, he strives to "get the patients back to their previous level of activity. He emphasizes the use of throscopy in his practice, as it allows for a more rapid recovery.
He and his wife, Shannon, live with their three children in Northwest Pittsburgh.
