Anthony Watson, MD

Dr. Watson, a native of New Kensington, was certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery in 1999 after completing his medical and Orthopaedic Surgery training. He began his career in academic Orthopaedics as Associate Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Allegheny General Hospital so that he could participate in training Orthopaedic Surgery residents and perform research. During this time, he received the Golden Mallet Award for Excellence in Orthopaedic Education and was awarded a research grant from the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society to study adult flatfoot deformity. Dr. Watson joined Greater Pittsburgh Orthopaedic Associates in 2004 so that he could return to practicing General Orthopaedic Surgery since so many of his foot and ankle patients wanted him to take care of their other Orthopaedic problems.

Dr. Watson has completed several scientific publications and presentations, and has continued his research in Orthopaedic surgery. Having studied Economics, he is frequently called upon to perform cost-effectiveness analysis and review cost-effectiveness analysis studies from around the world.

As a result of his ongoing research and economic studies, he serves as an editor for Foot and Ankle International and Journal of Foot and Ankle Techniques, is a consultant editor for Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery, writes examination questions for the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, has written several Orthopaedic Surgery textbook chapters, and served as co-editor of an Orthopaedic Surgery textbook.

"I enjoy providing the full-spectrum of Orthopaedic Surgery to my patients," says Dr. Watson. "By not narrowing my focus to a specific part of the body in my practice, I can treat the whole patient and provide good continuity of care."
